O.K. what the heck is 'Vector'?
Basically there are two types of computer graphics, bitmaps and vectors. Bitmap files such as jpegs or gifs are made up of tiny little "squares" or pixels containing a "bit" of the image within the square. A vector file is a mathematic representation of lines, colors, and shapes.
The most important reason for a logo design to be done in vector format is that your logo can be resized without any loss of clarity or image quality. Whether it's a business card or trade show booth banner, your EPS file will meet your professional printers’ requirement.
Another reason to start out in vector is a vector file can be turned into jpegs, gifs and tiffs very easily, but not so easy the other way around. If the only file you receive is a jpeg, you may find yourself paying for your logo to be recreated in vector somewhere down the line. Programs that create vector files are Adobe Illustrator, FreeHand, and CorelDraw.
