PRINTERS

When you have something printed, there are basically two options: Offset Printing and digital printing.

Advantages of Offset

    * High image quality
    * Work with true PMS colors
    * Works on a wide range of printing surfaces including paper, wood, cloth, metal, leather,
       rough paper, and plastic
    * The unit cost goes down as the quantity goes up

Advantages of Digital

    * Shorter turnaround
    * Proofs are accurate and every print is the same
    * Cheaper low volume printing

Once you decide which process is best for you, you can now choose a printer.

YOUR LOCAL COMMERCIAL PRINTER

As your business or organization starts to grow, so does your printing needs. It is important to develop a face to face relationship in the beginning with a local commercial printer.
If you have spent a lot of time painstakingly picking a color palette for your identity and like any great brand, needs that color needs to be consistent,  commercial printers will provide you hard proofs before they run an order. Once you have you first approved order finished, on your next order they will be able to match the colors.
A good printer will have knowledgeable staff to guide you. They can make recommendations on paper, specialty processes, and better ways for your project to produce for the printed piece.

STAPLES or FEDEX KINKOS
Although they do send their work offsite,  they do have staff that can help with paper and coating choices.

ONLINE PRINTERS

These are great for people who are watching the bottom line. Prices are cheaper because everything is automated. The computer will calibrate the colors and there's maybe some shift from what you have been looking at.  Some notes on the more popular online printers:

VISTA PRINTS business card run a little smaller than the standard 3.5 x 2 cards and OVERNIGHT PRINTS have an unusual set -up. If you are choosing either of these printers, let me know so I may set up properly.

TRADE ONLY PRINTERS
"Trade only" printers will work with graphic designers, ad agencies, and similar businesses, as well as other printing firms. I have a trade only source for both offset and digital and offer printing oversight for my clients.

GREEN PRINTERS
Each year there are more green options for both the consumer and business owner. Green printers now offer both offset and digital options, using vegetable based inks and recycled paper. If you decided to go green, then please don't forget to ask me to include the recycle or another green  tag on your marketing and collateral material so your clients know you care!
